Producer Gathering asked Kate Craddock, director, to talk us through the process of adapting GIFT Festival to an online context during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Bio

Kate is Founder and Festival Director of GIFT: Gateshead International Festival of Theatre, an artist-led festival celebrating contemporary theatre. GIFT is currently part of the consortium of festivals and organisations leading England’s Performing Arts Showcase commissioned by Arts Council England.

Kate has worked across creative and academic contexts since 2005 and she completed her practice based PhD entitled ‘Collaboration in Performance Practice: Trust, Longevity and Challenging Proximity’ in 2010. Kate is currently a Research Associate (Part Time) at Newcastle University, and prior to this held Senior Lecturer roles at Leeds Beckett University (2009-2011), and at Northumbria University (2011-2019) where she led the MA Theatre and Performance course (2015-2019). As a theatre maker, Kate has performed throughout the UK and internationally. She is a Trustee for ARC, Stockton Arts Centre and The Paper Birds Theatre Company. Kate was recipient of the Clore Cultural Leadership Theatre Fellowship, (2018/19) through which she undertook a secondment with HOME, Manchester. In 2019, Kate was part of the Arts Council England and British Council GENERATE programme.
