Hello! My name is Gabi and I am a producer and actor born and raised in Bulgaria, but after completing my formal training at Arts University Bournemouth and The National Youth Theatre, I now find myself deeply rooted in London. I am the Co-Artistic Director of StageBase Productions, a theatre company for emerging theatre makers and collectives. Thanks to an exceptionally strong passion for the participation strand of producing, I am currently running a nationwide project for working class artists as part of my producing training at the nationally renowned Almeida Theatre. I have produced work for companies such as Burnt Orange Theatre, Etcetera Theatre and Mad Jacks Theatre and I am a Youth Board Member at Masterclass Theatre Trust at Royal Haymarket. As a creative, bringing meaningful stories to life is at the core of my practice, regardless of which side of the stage I do it from. My upcoming projects include work with StageBase Productions, the Gonsalves Online Actor Training, as well as an exciting legacy project in collaboration with Gecko and Good Chance, following the run of ‘From Here On’, a physical theatre performance about a child’s right to safety in partnership with Safe Passage International.

Producing Practice
I explain my producing practice using a phrase from an incredible book by Kim Scott – ‘Radical Candor’. I have adopted this approach as I think it encapsulates perfectly what producing is - caring personally and challenging directly. Selecting carefully and caring deeply about the projects I am involved with, guarantees my constant extra-mile commitment and my insatiable need for honesty and challenging my work ensures a transparent and nurturing process for all parties involved. Thinking four steps ahead and three steps to the side – I am keen on having a firm direction forward, but always staying open to a sideways expansion. In one way or another, I tend to end up running projects involving young people or productions of high social or political value. I am deeply and forever interested in telling stories about the human experience and finding new and innovative ways of doing so.

As a mission-driven producer, I want bold, thrilling and layered productions, which celebrate art and the human experience. Small-scale work has been my main area of work so far, but I am keen to expand my experience and step into partnerships with prospect of bigger scale work. Co-producing performances as a freelancer or through my theatre company StageBase Productions is of great interest to me, as well as projects, which are participation orientated or have it incorporated to some extent. I don’t feel limited by genre or topics, but rather open to the format if the story moves and excited me and I feel in a position to truly contribute to the process and product. As an artist, I am not afraid of making decisions and hurdles, stereotypes and rejection are nothing more than temporary resistance.
