Bursary Reflection

Receiving the bursary this year has been an incredible opportunity to expand my work in international collaboration and mentoring. It has provided the space and resources to explore ways to bridge creative industries between the UK and Brazil while spotlighting the challenges and potential within these collaborations.

Over the past months, I’ve connected with producers across music, theatre, and film in Brazil. These conversations revealed a pressing need for mentoring and networking opportunities, especially for mid-career producers navigating the complexities of international work. The high costs associated with networking and building relationships—crucial for touring or collaborative projects—pose significant barriers for many.

Through this process, I’ve been fortunate to identify a partner with experience working in both Brazil and the UK. Together, we’re working on a funding bid and developing a scheme to support “agents of change” and mid-career producers. This initiative aims to equip them with the tools and networks necessary to develop international work while fostering meaningful cultural exchanges.

This experience has reinforced the value of collaboration and the importance of creating accessible opportunities for others. It has also been a reminder of the role mentoring can play in empowering creatives globally. The insights gained and partnerships formed have set the stage for impactful future projects, and I’m excited about what’s to come.

The bursary has not only deepened my practice but also helped me build connections that will continue to shape my work in supporting the creative industries.
